About the Food Game

The Food Game teaches children to recognise foods, sort them into groups and think about what makes a balanced meal. Rounds are short and varied: sorting foods into their categories, building a healthy plate, finding hidden foods in a scene, and a food memory matching level.

The healthy-plate activity is the useful part. Rather than labelling foods good or bad, it asks children to assemble a plate with a bit of everything, which is a far more workable idea for a young child than a list of banned items. The whole game is short enough to sit alongside an actual meal, which is often the best moment to talk about any of it.

How to Play

  1. Sort foods into their correct groups.
  2. Build a balanced plate from the choices given.
  3. Find the hidden foods in the picture scene.
  4. Play a food memory level to finish the round.

What Kids Learn

  • Food names and everyday vocabulary

Questions Parents Ask

Does it label foods as bad?
No. It focuses on building a balanced plate rather than banning anything, which is a much easier idea for a young child to act on.
How long is a session?
Each round is short — sort a set, build a plate, find hidden foods, or clear one memory level. It fits easily into a few minutes.
What age is it aimed at?
Roughly 3 to 7. Younger children get the most from naming and sorting; older ones engage more with the healthy-plate activity.
